Interesting survey data on why people use (connecting to friends) and not use (privacy concerns) LBS.  White Horse did the survey - Lost in Geolocation: Why Consumers Haven’t Bought it and How Marketers Can Fix It.

2011: The Year the Check-in Died →
Came across this interesting article about LBS.  Personally I find checking in pointless unless they give me an economic incentive to do so.  Simply broadcasting where I am is a bit too exhibitionist for me.

Bump: Moving Beyond People to Places & Things →
The Bump app moves beyond mere contact sharing.  It now lets you share photos, calendar events, app recommendations, music and more. OK I’ll give it another try.

Kiip Gives Mobile Gamers Real-Life Rewards →
Kiip (pronounced like ‘keep’) has partnered with a wide range of brands, like Sephora, Vitamin Water, Dr. Pepper and Carl’s Jr., to offer free stuff in real-life for in-game success. So if, for example, you rack-up a string of three-star scores in Angry Birds, you might get a free milkshake, a 6-pack of soda or a sample mascara. Achievements = Rewards = Happy Consumers

LinkedIn's Answer to Facebook's Open Graph →
LinkedIn offers plugins to bring LinkedIn content and tools to your website. A couple exciting points worth noting: The plugins will display profile summaries, full profiles, company profiles and “company insider,” customized information about a company. Accessible to developers AND non-developers (with copy/paste of code)

Facebook Promotes Social E-Commerce →
Facebook says a purchase shared on Facebook generates more purchases from friends. This may be true. I find out about new products from my Facebook friends all the time, but I wonder if I would tune them out just like I do 99.9% of ads after a while. Time will tell.

Who's Dominating the U.S. Smartphone Market? →
Believe it or not, it’s not the iPhone. Between November 2010 and February 2011, Android jumped 7 percentage points from 26% to 33% of the U.S. smartphone market, while Apple’s iPhone increased only from 25% to 25.2%.  Then why does it seem like everyone I see has an iPhone?  And are they all as unhappy with theirs as I am with mine?
