Google+ API Made Available to Developers
On its new Google Plus Platform Blog today, the G+ team opened parts of the API to developers. “That’s just the beginning though — we want every one of you who builds applications to be able to include rich sharing, identity, and conversations in your app. Today, we’re taking the next step on that journey by launching the first of the Google+ APIs.”
Another reason why Google is awesome.

Face-ID Tools Pose New Risk
Armed with nothing but a snapshot, researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh successfully identified about one-third of the people they tested, using a powerful facial-recognition technology recently acquired by Google.
Prof. Alessandro Acquisti, the study’s author, also found that about 27% of the time, using data gleaned from Facebook profiles of the subjects he identified, he could correctly predict the first five digits of their Social Security numbers.

Google Maps for mobile and desktop now gives you LIVE transit updates.
Google Maps has partnered with a few U.S. and European cities - Boston, Portland, Ore., San Diego, San Francisco, Madrid and Turin - to integrate live transit data, letting you know about any delays or alerts on your route.

If you’re like me and love public transportation but doesn’t love the unreliability of the schedules, especially in the winter, this will be so helpful.  I can’t wait to test it out this weekend!

Google Launches Google Offers
Back in December 2010, Google tried to purchase Groupon for around $6 billion…unsuccessfully.  Today they launched Google Offers, a Groupon-like service. Starting Portland, there are plans to expand to New York and San Francisco later this summer.  Other cities to come.

What sets Google Offers apart from other similar service?  Integration with Google Wallet, the new mobile payments system the company unveiled last week. Instead of bringing a coupon into a business, consumers will just have to bring their (Android, NFC-capable) phones.

Google will begin renting laptop computers for $20 per month, a senior Google executive told Forbes. The laptops will run Google’s Chrome OS, a computer operating system that does away with local storage and applications in favor of a Web browser…and only a Web browser. The browser, of course, is Google Chrome.

A brilliant way to get people to adopt your services…early.
