MasterCard Shows the Future of Mobile Payments Is In Your Senses
MasterCard Labs is working on proof-of-concept for new and innovative payment solutions. Imagine scanning a QR code displayed on your TV screen and instead of merely taking you to the merchant site, processes the entire transaction on your mobile phone. This article describes a few of the interesting sense-initiated solutions.
Kiip (pronounced like ‘keep’) has partnered with a wide range of brands, like Sephora, Vitamin Water, Dr. Pepper and Carl’s Jr., to offer free stuff in real-life for in-game success. So if, for example, you rack-up a string of three-star scores in Angry Birds, you might get a free milkshake, a 6-pack of soda or a sample mascara.
Believe it or not, it’s not the iPhone. Between November 2010 and February 2011, Android jumped 7 percentage points from 26% to 33% of the U.S. smartphone market, while Apple’s iPhone increased only from 25% to 25.2%.
Then why does it seem like everyone I see has an iPhone? And are they all as unhappy with theirs as I am with mine?
